National Environmental Monitoring Conference (NEMC)

The National Environmental Monitoring conference (NEMC) provides the principal forum for addressing policy and technical issues affecting monitoring in all environmental media (i.e., water, air, soil, and wastes) and across all environmental programs.

Microbiology Forum

A new microbiology forum has been created under the auspices of ASQ. This forum will allow microbologists to communicate their concerns to each other.

Environmental Data Quality Workgroup

EDQW is responsible for developing and recommending policy and guidance affecting environmental sampling and testing operations within DOD. The EDQW's primary responsibilities include:The EDQW's primary responsibilities include: Promoting the generation of environmental data of known and documented quality, Reducing unnecessary duplication and program costs, Developing policy to ensure compliance with established standards, Promoting better use of environmental resources, and Improving overall performance.

ELAB

The Environmental Laboratory Advisory Board (ELAB) was established in compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act in 1995 to solicit consensus advice from the environmental laboratory community on the NELAC process and standards. The complex nature of the standards and their application require that any advice to the Agency and NELAC be from a sophisticated and knowledgeable source. Therefore, the Agency has appointed members with the needed expertise from the following sectors: the laboratory industry, the regulated industry, Indian tribes, local government, environmental interest groups, engineering firms, and laboratory assessment bodies. Individual members serve as the focal point for their sector of the community, bringing a wide range of interests to the table. Since a national environmental laboratory accreditation program will have a significant impact on the laboratories and the regulated community, NELAC will greatly benefit from the input of those who must comply with the requirements on a daily basis. To date, ELAB has successfully provided consensus advice from a wide range of interested parties on multiple issues, such as the role of third party assessors, oversight of the proficiency testing program, and inclusion of GLP laboratories under the NELAC "umbrella." Through this committee the flow of information, advice, and technical data has been efficiently managed and accommodated. Members maintain a current knowledge of the NELAC standards and processes, through attendance at ELAB committee meetings, NELAC Interim Meetings, and NELAC Annual Meetings.

Department of Energy Consolidated Audit Program

The DOECAP is a program of annual qualification audits of environmental analytical laboratories and commercial waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities (TSDFs). The intent of this program is to eliminate redundant audits previously conducted independently by DOE field element sites throughout the Department's Complex, and achieve standardization in audit methodology, processes and procedures.
