FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

EPA Approves TNI Stationary Source Audit Sample (SSAS) Program

Weatherford, Texas - May 18, 2011 - The EPA's Measurement Technology Group has announced that, upon review of the standard for The NELAC Institute (TNI)'s Stationary Source Audit Sample Program, EPA has determined that the standard meets EPA's minimum requirements for an audit sample program as outlined in EPA's final rule published in the Federal Register on September 13, 2010 (75 FR 55636) entitled "Restructuring of the Stationary Source Audit Program."

This means that audit samples produced under the approved TNI SSAS Program can be used in compliance tests using the test methods found in 40 CFR Part 51, 60, 61, and 63.

"This is the culmination of almost three years of painstaking work," said Maria Friedman, chair of the TNI SSAS Expert Committee.  "My thanks go out to all those who contributed their time and expertise in building a sound foundation for the privatized audit program.  We've much work ahead of us, but this process has reaffirmed TNI's mission, and I am proud to have been a part of it."

The TNI SSAS Standard is available on the TNI website at nelac-institute.org, and will also be posted on the EPA website at www.epa.gov/ttn/emc.
