TNI Advocacy Documents
The Advocacy Committee is charged with promoting TNI’s efforts, and as part of this, the Committee from time to time develops various documents stating TNI’s position on some issue or promoting some TNI effort. These documents are arranged into these types, as defined in SOP-1-122
Article - a piece of writing included with others in a newspaper, magazine, or other publication and published on TNI’s website to convey information. (Also includes articles published in conference proceedings.)
Correspondence – official communication sent or received by TNI, excluding routine email. Note: Not all correspondence gets posted; only that which may have benefit to TNI members and/or the public.
Position Statement - a paper developed through consensus to address TNI’s stance on significant professional and technical issues of relevance to the environmental monitoring community, in support of and consistent with TNI's Vision and Mission. (SOP 1-118)
Press Release - a written or recorded communication directed at members of the news media for the purpose of announcing something newsworthy.
Regulatory Comment – TNI’s official response to a regulation proposed by a state or federal agency.
Report - an account given of a particular matter, especially in the form of an official document, after thorough investigation or consideration by an appointed person or body.
White Paper - an authoritative report that informs readers concisely about a complex issue. It is meant to help readers understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision.

develop consensus standards for use by TNI's programs. This group has a support role in assisting other programs with activities such as guidance and standards interpretation.
fosters the generation of data of known and documented quality is through the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program, or NELAP. The purpose of this program is to establish and implement a program for the accreditation of environmental laboratories.
is to establish and maintain a national PT program to support TNI’s National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program, and other activities.
Field Activities Program (NEFAP) Executive Committee is to establish and implement an accreditation program for field sampling and measurement organizations (FSMOs).
Audit Sample Program is to develop consensus standards for the manufacture and analysis of audit samples for source emission testing.
on a variety of topics of interest to the environmental measurement community. TNI also hosts two regularly scheduled meetings per year, typically in January and August. Both are a week long and involve open meetings of TNI committees as well as training courses and other special sessions.
